I am a new user and I love the concept. It's just what I am looking for but i can't get the service to work. I downloaded the Soocial Sync app, but it doesnt seem to upload my contacts. The status says finished but it also says "last synced:ages ago". No outlook contacts show up on the site and Soocial.com contacts are not pushed to Outlook or Gmail. In other words, Soocial.com can see Gmail contacts, but not see or sync with anything else.
Thanks.
ps. I a have Outlook 2007 with Vista and Soocial Version 0.9.86

1Hey,
We might be able to draw more information on what is going wrong from the logs. We need you user name for that. Woudl you mind sending them to support (at soocial dot com)? -

Ok so it appears to be working... it says its syncing and when i mouse over the tray icon it the number of contacts is increasing. So here's what i did. I closed outlook and the soocial tray icon, reopened outlook tried a sync, it went through the 6 steps super fast and nothing, so I did a force sync from the website, then closed outlook but left the tray on, then i just kept hitting the sync now and then it said it would like to force so I said yes and then it started to sync. Ok it finished and it still didn't sync...

Hey,
what kind of user you are? are you administrator, poweruser or user? if my account is an administratoraccount, i can sync directly from outlook. if i'm an poweruser, i can klick on the sync-button, but nothing appears. when i start the sSyncMLClient.Exe from the programmpath directly, it starts, but the windows are blank. i know where i must click and so i login and sync. the syncing is ok. but the sSyncMLClient.Exe doesn't work right without administratorrights.
PS: Sorry about my english. ;) hope you understand me. -

I’m
sad the outlook client doesn't work for you yet.
Hi Pinscha and redcross, thanks for reporting this issue. We'll look into it and see if we can find what is happening to your account. -

Stefan,
Thank you for your response. I'm not sure when or how but my contacts seemed to have made it to the soocial website. Now for some reason they aren't making it to one of my google accounts. I haven't had a lot of opportunities to test this lately but I just tried a sync from my outlook on Windows 7 and it seems to be working. I'll try tomorrow at work from my xp machine and update this board. Thanks for your help.-
Hi Redcross, send us your username (support at soocial) and we'll look into why your Google account isn't syncing.

sorry for the extremely delayed response. You should be receiving an email shortly. But I just tried a sync on my work PC (win xp pro & outlook 2007) and it has the same behavior and I found the synclog.txt file and this is the message i'm receiving: 08:02:32 GMT -5:00 [ERROR] - COM Pointer Error. Code = 80004003: Invalid pointer
Thanks. -

Hey redcross,
We have found a killed a bug today that will probably solve this issue. Would you mind trying again and letting us know if it is solved? -
-
Ok it seemed to fix the outlook problem but it still doesn't seem to be getting to my google apps account. My outlook says i have 1009 contacts (lots of duplicates) and my google says 32. We're getting there!! I love the sync to soocial though! Thanks you!
-
Did you fix this? I see 512 in Soocial and according to Soocial you have 512 in Gmail. Not correct?
-
-
-
-
-
When I go into my gmail (I'm using google apps - http://mail.google.com/a/domain.com) It says I have 33 contacts...
-
-
I also have the same problem. The icon in the toolbar "bottom right" says "starting sync". The Status Bar performs all 6 steps in one or 2 seconds. Last synced shows "Ages Ago". I have tried without Google Calendar Sync. Same results. Have tried rebooting. Tried without Outlook active. tried to create one contact in Soocial. same results.
Is it possible that because my computer name has a "french accent" in it that Soocial sould not recognize the name ? On soocial website, the accent is replaced with a square. -
-
I have a similar problem. The outlook synchronization claims the synchronization was never done.
The contacts appear on the web interface but many of them where deleted from my outlook account.
I guess i will have to delete the contacts from outlook and force an update from my cellular phone -
-
Same issue here:
The outlook synchronization claims the synchronization was never done. it "hangs" on step 2 of 6 ... and then it gives the message "some trouble connecting to the Internet" .... Internet connection works fine!-
Exactly my problem too

Guess I can better try and find another prog that offers the nescessary functions. Waiting for a solution seems to take ages!

Admittedly this is for free, so you have two options:
Decide you get what you pay for or
Be thankful that somebody is taking the time to do this for us -

Believe it or not, when I first used soocial, it worked with my outlook and I did sync all my contacts with my HTC window phones, Outlook, soocial. But two weeks ago it doesn't work anymore. Dyeing to wait for a solution to Outlook. I just figured out to sync my Nokia 6110 Netvigator phone and it work too. Great! just can't wait it work with Outlook again and I would love to say this is a superb freeware! Thanks to the Soocial team.

Any ideas on this. I have two pretty much identical machines on the same domain. One syncs fine with soocial from outlook, the other doesn't (says successful, but doesn't sync anything - finishes in a couple of seconds, status remains at "Never Synced"). Both machines are loggeed in with an admin user.
-
You might want to try to remove that machine from the www.soocial.com/connections page and then sync again.
-
-
-
-
-
I've tried that several times already. Each time I get the same problem.
Any other ideas? -

You might have to uninstall the client from add/remove programs. You would also have to remove the Soocial folder from:
C:\Users\{user}\AppData\Roaming (Windows7/Vista)
C:\Documents and Settings\{user}\Application Data\Soocial
And then reinstall and try to sync. Please tell us if that solves it. -
-
Thanks for the quick reply. Yes, I did this too. And restarted before installing again and still had no luck I'm afraid.
-
really? Bummer. You might need the new version of the client to solve this, as I am out of options.... We hope to release soon.

Actually, is there not a log file or something somewhere where I can diagnose the problem? I did look for it (which is why I ended up deleting the user settings folders before), but couldn't find anything useful.

Nope, no logs.

I've just installed the Soocial.com outlook connector on my new install of Windows 7 with Office 2007, and my first sync only took across 6 contacts of of the 1000 in my outlook address book.
I had a similar problem with my previous installation (of Windows 7 RC), though that did take 120 contacts.
Could you have a look at the logs to see if there's anything obvious?

Bart, thanks for the advice. I've left my laptop running for a couple of days now, syncing every 30 mins, and it seems to have settled on 111 out of the 1034, with some of the larger contacts having transferred and some of the smaller not. Could you have a look at the logs again for me?
-
-
Took a look at the logs. The sync goes perfectly well for those few contacts. But it seems that all other contacts are invisible to the Soocial client. We have seen this occasionally. It seems be caused by attachments in the contacts. What does solve this most of the time is when the user exports the contacts to a file and then after emptying the contact list reimporting the contacts. Caution though! This will remove pics and toher attachments from the contact. We will have a new and better client soon. You might need that one to fix this behavior.

Hello,
I have roughly the same problem: first synch seemed work properly but stoped after around 430 contacts (instead of 1207) on a new PC under XP and Outlook 2003.
I tried again (I deleted all contacts in Outlook, uninstalled Soocial client, installed it again). Now, 0 contact are synchronized from Soocial to Outlook...
The connection Hp-Fixe is visible in my account but the status is wrong (You have not synchronized with this client yet.).
Could you please have a look on the logs?
My username is o [dot] chaurin [at] gmail [dot] com
Thanks for helps: Soocial is a good solution for many people!
Best regards.-
So this works for the one machine but not for the other? Please try to reboot you pc, I will do a reset on our end. Please try again and let us know.

I reliaze this is old but I am a new user and had the same problem. Hopefully by sharing I can help someone else.
Specs: Windows 7 64 Outlook 2007.
Here is what I did to resolve the problem.
1st I removed my Outlook connection from the Soocial website.
Then I removed it from Windows using the standard remove/uninstall program in Windows.
Now reinstall the program but make sure that Outlook is not open. Once the program is installed DO NOT open Outlook. Go to the task system tray. The program should install a short cut link to the program there. Right click the link and select Soocial Preferences. If your account is logged in click on Logout. Now log back in input your account info and cross your fingers. Worked for me. I am very pleased with this program. Haven't got much time with it but so far the idea is sound.- view 1 more comment

Robin it's a bug. Really sorry about the trouble. We need a new version of the client to fix this. We will let you know when it comes available. You can read about a quick fix here:

I have attempted this with no luck! Another ideas? I am getting desprate for fix. Now that this is a pay service it shouldbe getting more stable not more frustrating.

Agreed, we are testing a very that is close to being done. We might need a few more weeks though.

Well it's now been four months since the last post to this thread - are things any further forward???

(also sent direct to Bart via email but shared here for other users too)
I went in to settings and logged in to my account fine and it shows me as logged in. I loaded Outlook and nothing much happened so I then requested a manual sync. It then sat for 10-15 min just showing 'syncing' with the 'progress blocks' moving across. After a while it just said 'sync failed, unknown error'. I tried again and after another 10-15 min it said it completed successfully.
So far no annoying connection message but it does seem to be syncing rather slowly and a little intermittently (this is on home WiFi, web browsing without a problem whilst trying to sync, so the connection is OK).
Hope this is of help - let me know if I can pull any log files from somewhere and send them to you to help with the debug process.-
thanks for the info Alan,
after installing this version the initial sync is a full swap of contacts again. the following syncs should go a lot faster. -

Is the version SoocialSyncClient_0.10.1.31.msi still the latest one?
When I install it it works, but after a few days it stops (unknown error) and won't work until I reinstall it. I can't reinstall it every day! How do you expect people paying for this if you can't even make it to sync with Outlook 2007?-
Marc, really sorry for the hassle. When it does stop working can you please send us a message from the client's feedback tab. This will send the logs to our servers so we can see what is going on.

I believe to remember that I did this a few times but never got any feedback or update or whatever :-(
-
in that case, I am not sure if we received those. We are working on a new version that should fix a bunch of issues. But t might take a few weeks before we wil be able to release it. We will let you know when it coes available.

I’m
frustrated, angry that the problems are already known and not clearly announced on the website and looking for solutions
I'm getting similar problems on 3 different PCs all outlook 2007, 2 XP, one Vista.
The sync client locks up and does not finish - it just says that it is syncing. some contacts but not all have been downloaded and those that have now have multiple duplicates.
The sync client has to be killed from task manager to get windows to close down.
I have posted this under "questions" under the user rzjoffice.
Outlook 2007 is not exactly a minor client for soocial - if this were one model of mobile phone that was proving difficult, there might be a defence that resources were limited for working on it. This is a paid for service - I am a premium user - and I feel there is an implication of "we'll fix it when we get round to it"
I have actually spent a lot of time migrating back from Mozilla Thunderbird to outlook just so I can use soocial sync because soocial relied on an open source client for Thunderbird that no longer works.
I have also spent several hours uninstalling and reinstalling and deleting and resyncing to try to get this to work, only to stumble on this thread and discover that the company knows the outlook client is broken.
While this is ongoing there should be warnings on the outlook client download that say "this is NOT working for at least some of our customers"-
Hey Ray,
sorry for your frustration dude. But I think you are mistaken. when the client says it is "syncing.." it really is. It is not locked up. When you then kill the client from the task manager the sync is broken. The chances are high this will cause dupes depending on what state the sync is in.
So, the thing to do here is to start the sync and then let it sit until it is finished. It might take a while. Only if you get an error the sync has failed. As long as it says "syncing" well that is what it is doing. We are working on a updated version that will give better feedback. -
-
-
-
-
I don't think the outlook client is actually sending the problem reports although it claims to have done so
-
-
Hey Bart
I really don't think it is syncing even though it says it is...
I installed again. It sync'd 42 contacts out of 1510 to outlook then stopped as if it had finished.Tried to sync again and several times it said that sync had failed for unknown reasons.
Then it has got stuck with the progress bar scrolling across,
The status at the top saying "Currently: syncing"
and below:
last sync:Never
and an error message saying Failed to initialize sync Status 20015.
I click the cancel button which greys out and changes to "cancelling..."
And it hangs like that without changing.
So it still says syncing but it is obviously not as it has said it failed and it has responded to a cancel click by saying its "cancelling"
And I have left it for a considerable time but it never actually finishes cancelling.
The server view is that I have not synchronised with this "phone" yet.
Ray (r z j soo cial (at xemaps) (dotcom)) -
-
After posting last message, I got an alert box saying it needed to restart the client (error 20015) and after I did that it sync'd OK.
I have seen a few "lost connection with server" messages as well from time to time - just a suggestion that maybe the client is not coping properly if the server connection is lost part way through sync.
Anyway for now it seems this computer is syncing OK.
I'll report back if there are further problems
Ray -
-
I've had this same error a few times now - almost as bad as the old 'no connection' one1
-
-
We will get these bugs guys. We are actively chopping away at them one by one. Just needs longer than we'd like.
