Hey Brian,
It is high on our wishlist. Hard to say when we will be able to support them. -

Well, after searching forever for a solution to syncing the new droid phone from Verizon this was the only viable free solution that I could find. It's not exact, because the phone itself doesn't "sync" per say. However, since the phone is based off of Google & it is mandatory to integrate it with Gmail, all you have to do is use this software to sync your Outlook to your Gmail. Then your Gmail is syncing with your Outlook, which in turn will get to your phone....which is exactly what I was looking for...so thank you all very much.
I just added a contact to the phone & got it to Outlook after a few minutes & a couple of clicks to sync manually & vice versa. I'm assuming if I delete from one application it will delete in the phone & Outlook too, but that I'm not sure of...anyone have a guess?-
Thanks for the compliment! Deleting a contact anywhere in the chain will delete it on all connections. You are right about that.

Hi Brian - Another way to achieve Android sync is simply to connect Soocial <--> GContacts <--> Android phone. Soocial would then be connected to all the other sources and GContacts will manage your handset.
Not sure what value a different integration into Android would bring. Android & Gmail are the same contact list.- view 1 more comment

in fact I am planning to switch to Android just for this feature. Since my BB 8830 doesnt work with Soocial. :(

I'm not sure how much value this has to the Soocial team at the moment, but I know the default Contacts manager in Android is really sub-par. For instance, you can't even edit birthdays! (They are synced from Google Contacts, however, you just can't edit or add birthday information.)
So, perhaps a native client that is a super contacts editor? Also, being able to not only edit what fields Google supports, but the other fields as well, would be excellent. For instance, I don't think Google supports relations, but being able to edit them in the Soocial app (right after I hear the latest gossip!) would be great. -

Actually we think it would be really awesome to have our own Android client. But there is other stuff that is more pressing.....
-
That would be great! One of the remaining primary deficiencies in Android is the minimal contact list capabilities. Okay, scratch that, one of the remaining deficiencies in Google is minimal contact list capabilities. In fact, compared to the iPhone, it's embarrassing. Still, given the choice of an iPhone without G-Voice or android with GV; well, I'm voting for an Android App, so that should speak for me.
Honestly though, what a fantastic win for Soocial if you can get a superb app on Android and remedy such a major deficiency. -

New user. I have an HTC ERIS with a rooted 2.1 os. Works great as described above. Let Gmail sync your calender with Outlook then back down to the phone. The only problem with Google is it will not sync Contacts. This is where Soocial comes in. Make a Outlook connection and then Gmail connection. Soocial will sync Gmail and Outlook. Gmail will sync your contacts on your phone. Bota bing bota boom my world is perfect now. Works great for me so far, hopefully for a long time
I am glad i found this program. Give it a few days and if it keeps working with the promise it is showing right now and I am a premier subscriber. :)-
naaice! How is that going?

Hello everyone,
While we still don't have an Android client available I'd like to let you know that we've tested and I'm using myself the Synthesis AG SyncML client for Android.
You can find it here: http://www.synthesis.ch/news.php?lang...
It includes a 30 day free license and once the trial period is over you need to buy a 18€ license.
The settings for this client are:
- Sync server: https://sync.soocial.com/
SyncML version: 1.1 or 1.2
Username: your own
Password: your own
- Enable contact syncing
Server Path: contacts
Active SyncML Contacts (if available): select which address book you want to sync (you must select at least one!)
- Disable event syncing
This does not mean we won't develop our own sync client.-
This method is not working for me. I am using an HTC Incredible, and I was able to install Synthesis (which wasn't easy) but the Synthesis program does not display all of my address books. It's showing some Verizon back-up clutter, and address books that must plug into various applications--for example, a Weather address book?--and thus I am not able to select the phone's Contacts ("People").
-
-
I'm using Synthesis on a HTC Hero running Android 2.1 with Sense (the software should in fact be very very similar to your Incredible).
My configuration is as follows:
2 google accounts (both with contact syncing *disabled*)
on the Synthesis client's contacts section I have one of the Google Accounts as ON and everything as OFF (and also the Items with non-matching... ON)
then on the People (which is HTC's custom contacts application - different from normal Android) you click MENU, View and then select all the options (on my phone the important one is Google + Show auto gmail contacts).
Sorry if I'm not very clear but this get safisfaction comment functionality isn't very helpful. Let me know if you can't get it to work and I'll make a full post with pictures. -

I want to use Soocial, but until an Android application is developed and fully supported, I don't think I'm going to spend any more time entering my contacts into this system--which is a shame, because it looks like a great service.

I understand many people are of the view that an Android app is not necessary since it is easy to set Soocial to sync with Google and set the phone up to use that. One of the major issues with going through the Google sync is that contact pictures get squished down to a ridiculously small thumbnail which is less than ideal on current large resolution phones. This is one of the main reasons I would personally like a dedicated Soocial app - to maintain the quality of my pictures. I've yet to find a decent solution to this and so I am pinning my hopes on Soocial eventually coming through!

-
At this point I can't say more than that we are seriously thinking about it.

Any update on the availability of an Android app?

Hi Jeff, thanks for asking. Actually we're further along with it than previously stated. We do not give ETA's on clients but we can say it's on its way - send us an email to support@soocial.com referring to this thread and we'll send you the beta once it's available. (Which is likely to be within the next month.)

Hey Guys, we have a quick question for you. We have an alpha version of an android client that we have been playing around with. Doing this raised a bottom line question:
What reason would a Android user have to want a Soocial client for that device? If you hook one Gmail account up to Soocial that is hooked up to your Android then you do have them on both ends right?
I have found only one good reason in this thread and that would be that if Gmail is the middle man that the picture will be minimized to 92X92 pixels.
Can you give us some feedback on this. We are trying to make an educated guess of how many people would actually really need this client. Or would it be enough if we make a good How-To page on setting up your Android to sync with Soocial with Gmail as the middle man.-
As a GContacts fan I can say that I am not that worried about Android support. However if you are going there, could you please handle de-duping on Contact entry? Basically catch me if I go to add the same phone number to another contact, however do allow override, for biz phone numbers that might reach many people. Then if I enter the same name, catch that too and let me know/give me the ability to fix.

The whole purpose for me is that I do not want Gmail as the middle man on my phone. I've deactivated Gmail contact sync because I have 1000+ contacts in my Gmail, and Google constantly creates contacts, modifies contacts, etc. Further, if you've taken a look at contact management in Gmail, you'd find that it's the worst interface anybody ever designed.
I want a place where I can manage and maintain my contacts by myself, without Google's automation, and with a friendlier and more manageable interface, as well as use those contacts on my phone and only make minor changes from the phone itself.
For me, I don't even care if there's a picture feature at all. That's irrelevant to me. I hate Gmail contacts, which is truly the only reason I sought out looking for Soocial in the first place.
Thanks- view 2 more comments

While you are correct that they can be hidden, it still means I need to return to Gmail to manage those contacts. And from there, they're not hidden. Gmail's contacts interface is pathetic.
I would much rather do contact management with a service dedicated to contact management, where someone is going to put some thought and effort into the interface, how people will use it, and take customer feedback into consideration. -

Sorry if this gets double posted...
I agree with Matt. I have 4 gmail accounts that are synced to the phone - but only have one of them doing the contact sync. On my old Blackberry, it seemed very clear as to what was happening. With GMail sync, I'm not quite sure what will happen and when.
Are the contact fields in GMail exactly the same as Android contact fields? I was thinking that Soocial would be able to better define the fields. Maybe this is wrong.
If GMail sync to Android is good enough then is there a need for Soocial or can it go away?
Sometime in the future - it would be nice if the contacts were filtered by email addresses. Like having unique contacts for jeff@a.com that are different from jeff@b.com. It seems like it should improve performance on a contact search while in a particular account. Plus, the reason I have multiple email addresses is because they are used for different things - and the contacts are usually different so why only one contact list. If they are the same then Linking them would seem to make sense. -
-
-
-
Also having a Soocial client means that contacts created/changed on the phone get pushed directly to Soocial and we don't have to wait for Soocial to sync with Gmail.
-
That's right. If I need to synchronize my outlook contacts to android, i prefer to do it directly without gmail sync (the best was if android would integrate both).

Hi there, thank you for the sync client! I have installed it on my HTC Desire and taken my Gmail account off Soocial's sync list for trying it out. I keep getting error "access denied" when I try to synchronise with either the Gmail account on the phone OR with "pcsc (com.htc.andoid.pcsc)", which I believe is the Desire's phone contacts. Not sure if this is right place for bug report, or support if it is me that's doing something wrong. Any help appreciated though.

-
I installed Soocial's sync for Android and it does not seem to be able to access my HTC Incredible "Phone" phonebook... It lists 3 inaccessible phone books in the contacts menu.
-
-
Hey Matt and distantstorm. Can you provide us with (a) screenhot(s)?

I am a new android user with a brand new Samsung Captivate. My biggest problem with gmail is that on my phone I cannot copy "phone" contacts with "google" contacts. I use grouping all the time and with my contacts coming from Gmail I cannot group them like I can with a contact I manually enter into the phone. I am also one of those people that don't use Gmail. I have an account but prefer Outlook. I've used it for years and am not ready to give it up just yet. I'm hoping your program will transfer from Outlook to my phone AND allow me to add groupings. It worked on Outlook with my window mobile 6.5 quite nicely.
-
I guess this Android client should be a good help to you then. When you set up Outlook and the Android to sync with Soocial, you should be able to keep them in sync.
-

-
Personally I didn't have good luck with the Android app, but, I sync Outlook and Gmail with Soocial, which propogates to the phone. The only caveat is that it doesn't save to the phone itself, which, is really a non-issue.
-
Unfortunately, that is exactly where my issue is. I don't search through my address book to find a name, I look at the grouping to find a person. I have my wife's friends in one group, my son's friends in another, co-workers in another, etc... I just like tapping a group and seeing only a few people to choose from. Google mail doesn't have the ability to move my google contacts to my phone and vise versa. So no grouping with google contacts and no automatic saving of phone contacts through google. It's nit picking I know but I like it that way and was hoping to find a program that automatically saves my contacts through outlook, my phone and google if possible (even though I don't use google mail ).
-
-
-
-
-
That's a very good point, but google does support groups. You just have a seperate group of groups whether on the phone, and for each google account. Set up the groups within google.
I know it's not ideal, but, it's a work-around -
-
I actually tried that a little bit with google mail. I setup 3 names under 3 different groupings online. It only shows up on my phone as 1 group, the google group. This does not allow me to sort them on my phone. Good thought though.
